A Sound Way To Treat Hearing Loss In Children

There's good news for parents who have a child born with significant hearing loss. Advances in technology are making it possible to address profound hearing loss in children as young as 12 months of age.

Approximately one of every 1
0
newborns in the United States-about 33 babies per day-is born profoundly deaf.

Fortunately
there are treatment alternatives. For example
cochlear implants are small
complex
implantable electronic devices that restore hearing by bypassing the damaged parts of the ear to directly stimulate the auditory nerve
and may be beneficial to those who cannot hear or understand speech well with a hearing aid.

One of the latest developments in cochlear implant technology is the HiResolutionฎ Bionic Ear System. Developed by Advanced Bionics Corporation
the Neuromodulation Group of Boston Scientific Corporation
it is described as the only cochlear implant system that can provide HiResolution sound
which is designed to enhance the fine details of sound to stimulate a more natural hearing nerve response for both children with profound hearing loss and adults with severe or profound hearing loss.

Potential advantages of the cochlear implant include better distance hearing
comfortable loudness growth
and clearer
more understandable speech.

Experts say people with cochlear implants can hold normal conversations
hear in noisy environments such as restaurants
use the telephone
work
participate in sports
attend school
and even play musical instruments.

Early screening and implementation of a hearing device
such as a cochlear implant
have medical
financial and social benefits. "Cochlear implants
coupled with auditory therapy
can help young children more quickly acquire the speech
language and social skills needed to successfully mainstream into regular classrooms with their normal-hearing peers
said Patricia Trautwein, Au.D., director of auditory education and training for Advanced Bionics.

Nearly half of all cochlear implant recipients are children. Children benefit most from a cochlear implant when their hearing loss is detected in its beginning stages and they receive early intervention and treatment.

Adult candidates for a cochlear implant are most often those who are post-lingually deaf in both ears. These individuals typically receive limited benefit from hearing aids.

A short-cut to a smooth and healthy skin

Saturday, 22 August 2009

You are 25 but look 35. Blame it on your skin! The skin is the largest organ in the body
and the most exposed. Pollution
ultraviolet rays in the Sun's light
stress
lack of essential vitamins
all contribute to wear and tear your skin.

Most people don't take proper care of their skin - either due to hectic work or due to pure ignorance. Lack of proper skin care can result in more skin-related diseases and allergies. Proper skin care is important for avoiding cold sores
spots
and skin cancer. Beauty therapies and skin care lotions are only effective up to a point when it comes to keeping your skin soft and smooth.

Exposure to sunlight causes loss of water in our body which leads to dryness of the skin. This results in the skin losing its elasticity and 'sagging.' This loss of elasticity normally happens with ageing. However
changing climatic conditions and atmospheric conditions such as ozone depletion cause the harmful ultraviolet B rays to cause more damage to our skin. This is where nutrition comes in.

In order to get the right skin
it is important to look at the part played by nutrition in skin care. That translates as getting more nutritional food into your diet. Lack of proper nutrition may result in the loss of natural oils present in your skin. Fresh vegetables
fruits
fresh juice
cereals
etc. contain vitamins essential for a healthy skin.

Vitamin E is said to be a skin-care vitamin. Apart from vitamin E
vitamins such as A and C are also essential for a healthy skin. These vitamins contain antioxidants which help the skin to maintain its natural oils. These antioxidants help to reduce the tendency of the skin to age. Ultimately they help fight the punishing effect that the climatic changes have on our skins.

But where do you get the vitamins and nutrients necessary for your skin's health? Not from your daily diet. For various reasons
people cannot get the right quantity of vitamins and other nutrients into the body through their normal diet. And synthetic vitamins are out.

Enter glyconutrients. Eight essential sugars have been discovered to be the essential building blocks for our body cells recently. There is a lot of research going on about these essential sugars and the larger group of saccharides of which they are a part
called glyconutrients. These eight simple sugars are responsible for cell-to-cell communication necessary for keeping the body's glands and organs
including the skin
healthy.

Skin care ointments and lotions containing glyconutrients are the best alternative to any beauty therapy. The intake glyconutrients is equally important for health care as well as skin care.

Consult your doctor or dietician
exercise
and drink a lot of water. And give your skin its daily dose of glyconutrients!

A Pursuit For The Nose

Take note
when you buy a perfume bottle most of the cost goes to the packaging
advertising
sales profit and tax. Only a small percentage
actually around ten percent
is dedicated to the costs of the scents.

So why buy when you can make your own perfume. Not only will you be able to save some money but you'll get a blast from the pursuit of the perfect perfume.

One of the greatest advantages of making your own perfume is that you don't have to worry about having chemicals and preservatives going onto your skin. Since you're more likely going to work with natural
you don't have to worry about the possible effects of synthetic materials on your body.

However
care should still be taken when using various essential oils. Some people might still have particular allergenic reactions to specific types of oils. It is therefore important to know or be familiar with your own body chemistry first before trying experimenting with blending perfumes.

First
let's differentiate between the various types of perfumes. Basically
a perfume is a mixture of aromatic compounds and diluted in alcohol and water. The amounts of aromatic oils dissolve in a blend determine if it can be called a perfume or a cologne. Arranged from highest concentration of oils to lowest the sequence would be: perfume
eau de parfum
eau de toilette
eau de cologne and body splash.

When we say perfume
the blend of aromatic oils is from 25 to 40%. Eau du parfum
meanwhile
are 15-30% aromatics. Eau du Cologne has even lighter aromatic oil contents. This type of scent usually has around 5-15% aromatic compounds. Toilet water or sometimes referred to as body splash has only 3-5% aromatics. Body splash are ideally used after you take a bath or shower.

When you make your own perfume
you get to choose which solvent you would use to dilute the blend. Available at your disposal are either jojoba or alcohol. Both have distinct differences and benefits. Jojoba is great for perfume blends because it never turns rancid.

When you have created your own perfume blend
it is best that you use the perfume only on your pulse points. Anywhere more and you might overdo the scent. For diluting the blend the traditional way
you use grain alcohol or a high grade proof of vodka. Alcohol makes the blend more volatile. The problem with alcohol is that you have to let the perfume blend evolve. If you don't the scent will smell more like an alcohol rather than a perfume. Usual proportions of alcohol and perfume blend is about three or four ml of the blend combined with five or 10 drops of alcohol.

Making your own perfume should be fun. Don't delve too much on the technicality of blending perfumes. Explore and try to make combinations that are unheard off. You never know
the resulting blend might be perfect to your body chemistry.

Scents and fragrances react differently when applied to your body. Choosing one that fits you is like choosing the right color of dress or the right pair of shoes to wear. Perfumes cannot just be worn arbitrarily. The resulting scent might be catastrophic. That's why you need to experiment more when making your own perfume. Try various combinations of scents until you find the perfect one for you.

A personal skin care program for you

Why is it that all of us cannot keep the skin we were born with. Well I’ve still got my skin but it has changed and
according to my mother
it has changed a lot. It would also need to have stretched a bit
well in my case stretched a lot. As we get older
things happen to our skin
like wrinkles. I have them but I am a man so I can get away with it. Unfortunately
ladies find it harder to get away with having a few wrinkles. As a man
I am not too bothered by a few wrinkles and as long as I keep my skin clean
I do not bother with it much and no one really notices. What we do notice though is skin on women
and because many men are somehow genetically programmed to be uncaring and insensitive about your skin
you spend a great deal of time and effort to make your skin look good.

Why is it then that men can get away with wrinkles but women cannot? Is there anything you can do about it? If you adopt a skin care program then this should help to affect how your skin looks and more importantly it will affect how you feel as well
and that is very important. You have to remember that the skin is the largest organ in your body and so by adopting a skincare program you are looking after yourself.

So what can you do about it? Well to start with after every shower even after you have dried yourself your skin is still damp and by applying moisturizer you are trapping moisture into your skin which is a great plus factor. Another one is to drink water and this hydration helps your skin as well. However
if you notice that even after this your skin is always dry and sometimes a little flakey
just visit your doctor to check things out. One other reason you should quickly visit is if there is a major change such as dark
(or lighter)
skin patches and any changes or growth to moles you may have. Get these checked out just to make sure you have no problems.

One thing to watch out for is the effect the sun has on your skin. The sun is at its fiercest when it is highest
which is generally at midday
so just take care. Applying a good sunscreen helps
and another thing to take into consideration is that elastin
which is a substance in your skin
breaks down under strong sunlight. This can cause the skin to sag so just be careful. It is a pity about the effects of sunlight on skin as most of us feel much happier when exposed to sunlight.

Rather than buy every skincare product on the market there is a lot you can do to help your skin by developing your own personal skincare program.

Healthy skin is helped by a healthy diet
and a healthy diet is usually a balanced diet containing fresh vegetables and fruit. Both of these have been found to contain antioxidants which can help your skin protect itself from day to day living. To get the best values from fruit and veg though it must be fresh or only lightly cooked.

Another important factor in skincare is skin hydration and this is helped by drinking a sensibly amount of water. I have seen it suggested that 4 to 8 cups a day is sensible but if you are drinking bottled mineral water check the chemical makeup of the water as some are high in sodium which means high salt levels. Do not fall into the trap that drinking 4 to 8 cups of coffee a day
(which is mainly water after all)
is as good for you. Coffee contains plenty of caffeine which helps the body to dispose of water. I had a great idea that I would drink beer instead of coffee as that is mainly water
but drinks containing alcohol
(including wine
) do not class as water either. It does not have to be bottled water either; tap water is fine as long as it is pure and clean. Not at bedtime though as drinking late at night means your body may retain this water causing your skin to stretch a little which is not something you want to happen.

Your skin also stretches when you become overweight and after a diet
and loosing weight
you will need to exercise to tone your skin into shape again. A younger person has more flexible skin but when you are older your skin is not as flexible and it becomes harder to tone your skin after loosing weight. The answer is not to try and put on weight in the first place but that is not always easy especially as we get older. However please try to keep weight gain off your skin care program as the two do not go together.

Whatever you decide to do
do some research and find out what will work best for you. One way of doing this is to talk to people selling skincare products in stores. Although their job is to try and sell you their product
they will still give you good advice. You could ask your friends as well
as some of them may be able to guide you in the right direction. Whatever you decide to do
good luck.

A Look At Bodybuilding As A Sport

Thursday, 20 August 2009

Competitive bodybuilding is a sport in which athletes attempt to develop and maintain the perfect muscular body. As bodybuilding competitors show off their physique and perform with a number of poses
they are judged by a qualified panel of experts who will render the final decision as to the winner.

When it comes to bodybuilding
the appearance of a competitors physique is much more important than how much he/she can lift. The sport of bodybuilding
therefore
should not be confused with or compared to a competition of strength. Instead
it is one of visual appeal. Bodybuilding is open to both men and women with specialized categories for each.

For those who regularly compete in bodybuilding competitions
or are interested in participating
the main strategy for contest preparation includes a combination of resistance weight training
a customized nutrition plan and plenty of rest. Resistance training is very important in bodybuilding as it is this that causes an increase in muscle size. The importance of nutrition comes into play as muscles grow
are injured and repaired during the bodybuilding process. In order for the body to properly heal itself
a customized nutrition plan is a must. Generally
bodybuilding competitors will eat a larger number of meals per day
but in smaller quantities. For instance
rather than eating three normal meals a day
a bodybuilding competitor may divide their food up into six or seven small meals.

Because of the strenuous regimen required of any bodybuilder
athletes often enlist the help of a nutritionist and a professional trainer. These individuals can work together to make sure that the athlete is training properly and also receiving the proper amount of nutrition. Rather than having to figure out how much to eat
when to eat and how often to work out
the trainer and nutritionist will handle all of the details while the athlete concentrates on building muscle.

At the end of the day
which is often exhausting for many bodybuilding competitors
rest is essential. Not only for the obvious reasons
but it is during rest that the muscle growth occurs. Without eight hours of sleep every night
some bodybuilding competitors find it difficult to regain energy and rebuild strength after an exhausting workout. In addition
many competitors find that an afternoon nap may further increase their body’s ability to increase muscle.
Individuals who are interested in entering into the world of bodybuilding should consult with local trainers in their area. If there are no trainers to be found
a stop at the local gym may provide answers as to finding a qualified trainer. Bodybuilding is a sport that requires a lot of dedication and even more hard work
which is evident in the physique of most competitors.

The information in this article is intended to be used for informational purposes only. It should not be used in conjunction with
or in place of
professional medical
nutritional or training advice regarding bodybuilding as a sport or as a hobby. If you are considering a venture into the world of bodybuilding
you must consult with a physician prior to beginning any exercise and/or nutritional regimen.

A History of Cosmetics Part 3

The cosmetics craze continued throughout the centuries into the 1900’s and began to see the earliest of the cosmetics industry being formed. Mrs. Henning’s House of Cyclax in London sold many products that you can still buy today from world famous companies like Avon. Another beauty salon owner found herself expanding her products to meet the demands of her upper class clientele from a facial cream that protects women’s skin from the sun to lipstick and face powder. Today
you can find a whole line of cosmetics from Helena Rubenstein.
As the years went on
the popularity of beauty salons continued to increase. In 1909
a salon called Selfridges began to sell cosmetics out in the open ver the counter. Women’s attitudes began to change and confidence grew. When the Russian ballet came to London
the influence of high art was apparent on many designers. A man named Paul Poiret was one of the first to come out with a much more vibrant and colorful look. It was also the first time that permanent cosmetics was seen. Women could tattoo their lipstick and eye shadow permanently on their faces.
During the 1930’s the fashion of lipstick went to a darker shade with a variety of shades. Around the time of WW II
ingredients for cosmetics was at a severe shortage and women underwent a kind of make-down. This ended right when the war did and demand for cosmetics increased more than ever. Competitors began manufacturing a number of products to meet the demands of the female consumer.
Today’s woman is the benefactor of all these years of trial and error with a virtually unlimited choice of products for any look they want to achieve. There are literally thousands of companies who have products in this now billion dollar yearly industry. Cosmetic products sell year round and even in times of recession.
So ladies
thank your ancestors and their concern for their own appearance for your own that you have today. There were probably days when they woke up and didn’t really feel like going through the hassle of putting on their face either.

A History of Cosmetics Part 2

For centuries after the Egyptian empire faded
the fashion norm around the world was a pale complexion. A tanned
sun-dried face was associated with being a commoner who worked out in the field all day alongside her husband. The upper class ladies of course did not participate in physical labor like that so they stayed inside and had white faces.
A white
pale complexion was also a symbol of wealth. If you had enough money
then you didn’t have to work. So a pale complexion was extremely important to some people. To get this look
women (and men too) would use a combination of hydroxide
lead oxide
and carbonate in a powder form to paint their faces and bodies. Unfortunately
this lead to a sometimes fatal side effect
lead poisoning.
To remedy this
chemists in the nineteenth century finally discovered a mixture of zinc oxide that didn’t block the skin from being able to breathe and kept people out of that irritating lead poisoning sickness. It worked so well that it is still used today by cosmetics manufacturers.
In the Edwardian era of London
around the turn of the century of 1900
society women with a disposable income would throw lavish parties and do a lot of entertaining to show off their wealth. As hostesses of the party
it was important for them to be the best looking woman at the function
so it was extremely important for them to look the youngest they possibly could. Women at that time who lived these extravagant lifestyles did not eat well
would not exercise
and breathed in the heavily polluted air that the cities of the time produced. They would rely on products like anti-aging cream and face cream to help hide their blemishes.
They would also go to the beauty salon. It was a little different back then than it is today. Women would sneak into the back of the salons and hide their faces as they entered. One of the most famous of these discreet beauty houses was the House of Cyclax
who would sell creams and rouges to ladies. Mrs. Henning
who was the owner
sold and created many products for her desperate customers who didn’t want anyone to know that they were getting old.

A History of Cosmetics Part 1

Tuesday, 18 August 2009

With all the billions of dollars spent every year worldwide on cosmetics
sometimes we may find ourselves asking
“How did it get to this point? When did it become the norm for me to have to wake up every morning and before I even go out the door I get to paint my face from top to bottom? Surely a woman way back in history didn’t just wake up one day and apply eyelashes
lipstick
eyeliner
foundation
and rouge all at the same time. No
it was
like many things
a culmination of things from the past.
Remember the Egyptians? That was over four thousand years ago. Cleanliness and appearance were terribly important to the Egyptians. They believed the appearance was in direct link with the health of the soul. They strived to always look and smell good. And with a society who values their appearance
you’re inevitably going to have people who are going to make themselves stand out. But the Egyptians
being the innovative people they were
used cosmetics for reasons that were even smarter than just trying to look good.
Mesdemet was the earliest kind of eye shadow- a substance made of copper and lead ore. The dark shades they believed would ward off evil eyes to their own. It was also a great disinfectant and insect repellant. Kohl was a dark powder that was also applied around the eyes in an oval shape. It was a combination of lead
ash
ochre
copper
and burnt almonds. To further enhance their appearance
they would apply a mixture of water and red clay to the cheekbone area. They would also paint their nails colors of orange and yellow with a substance called henna.
As time moved on and cultures were exposed to each other more and more
the Greeks began to pick up on the many practices of the Egyptian’s use of cosmetics. They would give themselves a pale color with a foundation that contained lead in it. This proved fatal on more than one occasion. As the Romans began to pick up the cosmetics practice
the pursuit of beauty became much less about functionability and took a turn into much more exotic routes. The Romans would paint their nails with a combination of sheep’s blood and cooked body fat. An ancient Roman man once said
“A woman without paint is like food without salt.”

When filing nails to give them shape
it is important to remember to file only in one direction as not doing so will cause them to leave uneven edges and splits on the nail which can cause cracks in the long run.

If your nail surface is a bit uneven or lacks radiance you can select to use a buffer to buff the top of your nail to give it a spontaneous shine and evenness. However don't recourse to buffing more than a couple of times every three weeks or so as it strips the nail of its natural oils and also thins the nail
making it weaker and more vulnerable to damage. Always top a buffing session with an application of a nail strengthener.

A few things about contact lenses

Nowadays
it is estimated that more than 100 million people around the world wear contact lenses. These items are very popular and technology improves them daily making them even more desirable.

Why do people wear contact lenses?

There are people who wear contact lenses
instead of glasses
for esthetical reasons. They like themselves better with contact lenses than with glasses. Another reason that determines people to wear contact lenses is the cosmetic one. There is a great variety of decorative contact lenses that can change the eye’s appearance. And there are those who appreciate their practical side. They cannot play certain sports with glasses; they use devices that are incompatible with glasses etc. There is that category of people who are forced to wear contact lenses for therapeutic reasons. In their case
the contact lens is not an option. The contact lens can be a bandage in the healing process of different diseases or injuries of the cornea and it is a luxury that heals. There is also a combination between the two reasons - colour lenses with correction power which actually please a lot of persons.

The first contact lenses ever made were developed out of glass. After that
new types appeared
as the ones made of Plexiglas and the rigid gas permeable ones
but
nowadays
the soft contact lens is the most appreciated. Modern materials include silicon hydrogel or other plastic polymers like etalficon A
galyficon A
senofilcon A (used in the fabrication of Acuvue contact lenses). Rigid gas permeable contact lenses are recommended to the persons with dry eyes as these lenses contain no water that could evaporate during the wearing.

If you decide to wear contact lenses
you first have to go to an ophthalmologist
no matter what your reason may be. The doctor will be the one to decide which type of contact lenses fit your eyes best. Different factors will be considered for the prescription of a certain contact lens: the material (the silicon hydrogel is one of the newest discoveries in the field)
the wearing time (daily wear
extended wear or continuous wear)
the shape (spherical
toric or multifocal) and many more. Depending of the material
the contact lens can be either rigid or soft. The rigid one can be gas-tight or gas-permeable
but the soft one is always gas-permeable. There can also be a further classification made on the moisture content
on the amount of water in the contact lens.

The wearing time

A daily contact lens is safer as the risk of infection is lower than at the long term contact lens. This type does not require cleaning
being single-use only. It is sterile. And it even keeps you away from spending money on cleaning or storage solutions. On the other hand
the extended wear type of contact lenses allows people to easily wear contacts for a longer period while allowing oxygenation (they usually have a high oxygen permeability rate). Some people prefer them as their convenience is obvious
but the risk of infection is higher than at the daily type of contact lenses due to the bacterial stagnation
dust accumulation and so on.

One of the most popular contact lenses brand in the world is Acuvue
produced by Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary Vistakon Company. They provide both vision and esthetical contact lenses. They design disposable lenses
making types that are to be replaced every two weeks (Acuvue
Acuvue 2
Acuvue 2 Colors
Acuvue Advanced and Acuvue Oasys) or less (1-Day Acuvue). They’ve also started making extended wear lenses.

Where to buy them from

Contact lens quality is very important. Low-quality contact lenses can damage the eye
causing irritations or hurting the eyelid or the cornea. Attention must be paid to the way the lenses are worn
kept and cleaned because
even if they are high-quality
they present different risks. So
the contact lenses must be bought from specialised stores after consulting a doctor. Places where these items are available can be found anywhere as the contact lenses are very popular. Another tendency is to acquire them from an on-line store. This method can even be less expensive and still offer the same quality. You just need the prescription. But be careful and only choose reputable stores. Your health is at stake.

A Closer Look at Wart Removal

Surgery is often a popular choice for wart removal. Usually following home treatment and chemical applications on the warts that has failed
surgery remains a common choice for many who seek wart removal. The reason is simple: surgery works. It’s effective
simple surgery
usually performed in a doctor’s office or outpatient center
causes a minimum of pain
very little scarring in the hands of a talented
skilled professional and is usually covered by insurance.

There are two forms of commonly used surgical techniques used for wart removal.

The first is a combination of electrosurgery and curettage. Electrosurgery means using tools that send a small electrical charge into the head of the wart
effectively burning it. Curettage means cutting the wart off completely using a surgeon’s knife or a specially designed spoon shaped device intended for this use. Most often
these two procedures are used together
sending the wart into shock with the electricity and then removing it with the spoon shaped surgeon’s knife. Lately
state of the art lasers have been used with growing popularity and enviable success rates. They effectively burn off the wart by shooting an intense beam of light into the base or root of the wart
severing its blood supply and killing it.

The wart is usually left to die if it is internal or it might be cut off after the laser treatment. Whatever treatment you choose for wart removal
you can rest assured that even if it is new
it has been tested frequently and perfected before it has been used on you. Go to your doctor at the onset of any symptoms or irregularities you may notice in or on your body. Let him diagnose your problem and then discuss the possible treatments. And if you elect wart removal
trust in medical science to have found just the right way to go about it for maximum success and minimum pain.

A Beautiful Complexion Is More Than Skin Deep

Monday, 17 August 2009

When you see someone with beautiful skin
that person radiates good health and vitality. Usually
that kind of radiance requires more than just slathering on any old facial product.

A healthy lifestyle and great skin-care habits produce glowing
youthful-looking skin. So what you put in your body is equally as important as what you put on it.

Here are some tips for naturally gorgeous skin.

* Maintain a balanced diet. Consuming too much refined food
such as sugar
can drain the body of essential vitamins and minerals. This
in turn
encourages wrinkles and premature aging. Eat foods that are rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids
such as fruits
vegetables and fish. Also
drink at least eight glasses of water a day.

* Exercise. Working out brings more oxygen to your skin cells
leaving you with skin that's nourished and more firm. Exercise also helps reduce stress. Studies show that too much stress can potentially aggravate skin conditions
such as acne and hives.

* Find natural skin care products. The most revolutionary skin-care products today merge nature with science. For example
the new Nature's Gate Organics Advanced Skin Care line takes the best that Mother Nature has to offer and combines those ingredients with formulations that are scientifically proven to benefit the skin.

Nature's Gate Organics' Oh What a Night
a cream that hydrates skin overnight using walnut seed extract and European beech tree buds
shields against early visible signs of aging. Have a Vine Day
a day cream that contains chardonnay grape seed extract
helps tired-looking skin look visibly lifted and smoother. And Forget Your Lines
a wrinkle diffuser serum that works like natural Botox
helps to de-stress skin.

* Protect your skin from harsh rays. Exposure to the sun can cause premature aging and skin discoloration
increasing your risk of skin cancer. Apply sunscreen daily and wear a brimmed hat whenever possible.

8 Tips For Choosing The Right Cosmetics For Your Skin Type

Sunday, 16 August 2009

The right cosmetics for any skin type is important to create a fresh natural appearance as well as to prevent reactions to the cosmetics such as allergies with resulting rashes
itching and weeping or breakouts with whiteheads or blackheads and painful skin eruptions. Every person's skin is unique and different areas on a person's face may have different characteristics which must be taken into consideration when choosing appropriate cosmetics.

If you've been disappointed when your powder eye shadow creases and slides before lunch or your foundation looks lined and caked
understanding the characteristics of your skin and purchasing appropriate cosmetics for your skin type is a worthwhile exercise. Here are some tips to help you look your best.

Avoid cosmetics that dry or irritate your skin

Each different skin type will react differently to the various types of cosmetics. Even if a particular brand works for your eye shadow
the same brand may not work for lipstick. This is because the skin type on your eyelids may be very different from the skin type on your lips. When you are choosing cosmetics such as foundation
for example
avoid drying cosmetics or cosmetics that cause your skin to break out. Unfortunately
you may have to try several products in order to determine those that work on your skin consistently. Another issue which must be considered is that your skin may build up a reaction to a particular cosmetic which did not previously cause a skin irritation
so you may be forced to find an alternative to a tried and true brand which worked well in the past. Skin characteristics may change significantly over a lifetime as well
forcing a change in the type of cosmetics which you select.

Consider your skin tone when selecting cosmetics

Even if the particular type of cosmetic is just right for your skin type
choosing the wrong color--one which is either too light or too dark will make the cosmetics less than attractive. Select cosmetics that complement and match your skin tone and minor imperfections in skin tone and texture will disappear. Darker foundations
deeper colors for eye shadow and eyeliner will be best suited for those with chocolate or olive skin tones. On the other end of the spectrum
if you have pale skin
you should choose lighter shades of foundation and eye makeup. Cosmetics should enhance
never overpower the skin tones.

Invest in quality makeup

Quality makeup often tends to get painful to the pocketbook
but it shows on your skin. Cheap makeup can cake or slide on your skin and isn't as likely to blend. It is more likely to sit on the surface
giving a plastic look. Look for good quality cosmetics that aren't necessarily expensive. It's better to invest in yourself by purchasing quality makeup that you know looks great with your skin type.

Dry Skin

If you are the victim of skin that is dry
don't despair. You should find a mousse or crรจme type foundation. If you use a concealer
make sure it is cream based and your compact powder should be pressed compact powder. You should avoid loose power or oil free formulas as they will tend to settle in the fine lines on your face. Eye makeup is best done with silk-textured powder or crรจme eye shadows and eyeliner should be either a shimmer pencil or a matte type. Moisture is the key word with lipsticks and lip glosses. Find a moisturizing lipstick and use lip gloss that has ingredients such as aloe or vitamin E
both of which provide additional lip moisture.

Sensitive Skin

Look for products that are labeled specifically for use with sensitive skin and avoid fragrances in your cosmetic products. Non-allergenic is another phrase to look for on the labels. The key is to avoid anything with high dye levels or preservatives.

Combination Skin

You can either choose different products for different skin conditions on your face or you can select products which are specifically created for combination skin. Even so-called normal skin often has areas which are more or less oily than other areas. Normal skin may have times during the monthly cycle when it is oilier than usual.

Oily Skin

For oily skin
try using an oil free primer before applying a matte type foundation that won't clog your pores.Loose powder has fewer oils than pressed powder. Blot the skin periodically throughout the days to remove any shine. Avoid cremes for eye shadow or mascara and creamy style lip pencils.

Cleanser options

Avoid harsh or drying cleansers as well as greasy cleansers since either extreme will react unfavorably with your skin type. The best skin cleanser
regardless of the skin type is a water-soluble cleanser that is gentle on the skin.

8 Secrets on How to Remove Acne Scars

There are several ways on removing acne scars. The appearance of acne starts during puberty when the body actively produces hormones that causes too much sebum in the skin. This skin stage may pass but it would definitely leave marks to haunt your appearance forever. Treating acne scars can be done through natural inexpensive ways and dermatological procedures that would probably cost a lot. However
acne scar treatment still depends on the mildness and severity of the scar.

Below are some of the techniques on removing acne scars naturally:

1
Hydration is the key. It has been proven that water is one of the best natural methods on how to remove acne scars and prevent acne breakouts. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water or more helps your skin to shed those unwanted dead skin cells.

2
A lot of people are recommending the use Vitamin E capsule for those scars. You might apply it topically to the affected area by pricking a spot in the capsule and apply the oil to the scar. Another option is to take it orally to have that cell renewal from the inside.

3
Rosehip seed oil is also an effective remedy on how to remove acne scars. This is an anti-ageing and anti-wrinkling agent that helps the skin to regenerate. Massage it on the scar twice a day.

4
Eating a balance diet may help in removing acne scars. The more nutritious foods you include in your meal
the faster the scar will heal. It helps in building the skin cells and gives a healthy skin glow as well.

5
Combine rose water and paste of sandal wood and apply it on the spot where the scars are. Leave it overnight then rinse with cold water the next day.

Aside from the natural ways of removing acne scars
there are also dermatological procedures that would definitely give you a much faster result. However
pregnancy and other health conditions may hinder your want to undergo these procedures. Here are some of the hi-tech methods on how to remove acne scars effectively.

6
Nowadays
not only certified dermatologists do a dermabrasion but facial salons as well. Dermabrasion is the removal of the top skin layer using a machine that chafes off the skin. Once the skin heals
the top layer will then have a smoother and clearer appearance.

7
Laser resurfacing is one of the most affordable anti-scar treatments available. It simply uses a high-energy light that would remove the fine scars and even prevent wrinkles.

8
You may also have a chemical peel procedure. This is just like dermabrasion. The only difference is that the top layer of the skin is peeled off using chemicals not machines. This is not a very advisable procedure for all since some people may have allergic reactions to the chemicals.

With all the available choices for treatment
you surely would not have an excuse as to why your acne scar is still obvious. It’s your choice whether you would opt for the natural way or the dermatological procedure on how to remove acne scars.

7 Tips For Beautiful Skin

For most women
part of the morning and evening routines involve a skincare regimen of applying creams
moisturizers
tonics
lotions
and the like. Why do women put themselves through this? They do it primarily to combat the signs of aging
and to maintain youthful looks and beautiful skin! It is a safe bet
however
that most women haven't put much thought into what is in the products that they are using.

Some women probably do not realize that what they are putting on their skin may actually be undermining what they are trying to prevent to begin with. In fact the average woman puts twelve products on her skin daily
most of which contain harmful chemical preservatives. Dr. Myron Wentz
founder and chairperson of USANA Health Sciences
has this to say about beauty in the company magazine's June/July 2005 issue: "Some say that beauty is only skin deep. Nonsense! I believe that true beauty is a reflection of true health
and true health begins deep inside each and every cell in the body. But true health and true beauty have an outer component
which is why we require protection from environmental insults such as solar radiation
pollutants in our environment and the drying effects of air. . . The fact is you simply cannot contain a healthy body if your skin isn't healthy. And your skin can't be healthy if your are subjecting it to toxic substances that are ultimately absorbed into your body."

So
what can women do? How can they combat environmental pollutants
the affect of solar radiation
and the drying effects of air? How can they be sure they are using the very best products on their skin so they can be healthy inside and out? Here are 7 tips to assist in this process:

1. Be very aware of what is in skincare products. Use products that are all natural as much as possible.

2. Look for products that contain Dermal Surface Renewal Technology. DSR smoothes away existing signs of aging such as laugh lines
crows feet
and dullness.

3. Use products that have regenisomes. Regenisomes penetrate the skin to speed cell renewal after sun exposure. They also use the light of photosomes to undo sun damage
and have ultrasomes to renew skin while sleeping.

4. Find products with Proteo-C and Proflavonol-T. These two vitamins protect the skin from premature aging caused by the sun
pollution
and other environmental factors. They also provide advanced nutrition to the skin to keep it appearing smooth and firm.

5. If possible
use products that are paraben free. Parabens are synthetic chemical preservatives that are widely used in personal care products such as shampoos
conditioners
hair styling products
make-up
facial masks
skin lotions and creams
and deodorants. They also are typically ingredients in baby lotions
shampoos
and other personal care products for infants and children. In addition
parabens are in many foods and pharmaceutical products. Researchers are beginning to find parabens in benign and malignant human breast tumors. While some studies have challenged their toxicity in many products and question their long term affect on humans
using products that are paraben free can eliminate the risk of exposure to this harmful chemical.

6. Drink plenty of water! Water hydrates skin and hair as well as flushes toxins out of the body.

7. Limit stress or learn to manage it effectively. Stress is harmful both emotionally and physically. Find that stress reliever activity that works best and use it on a daily basis!

Follow the above 7 tips to true beauty and health.

7 Steps to Great Makeup

7
Steps to Great Makeup - - -

1
Avoid wearing too much

Makeup is meant to enhance features not bring negative attention to you. That's what wearing too much makeup will do; it will bring you unwanted attention. Don't wear too much of anything such as:

i) Eyeliner: dark
thick eyeliner will make you look overdone and will ruin the rest of your makeup.

ii) Mascara: too much mascara looks fake and will flake. It looks especially bad if worn with thick eyeliner or dark blue eye eye shadow.

iii) Foundation: Make sure your foundation is the same color as your skin. Foundation is meant to protect and give the face a smooth look. The magic word is blend.

iv) Powder:The same holds true for powder - not too much. Also
be sure to blend your makeup so there are no obvious lineS

2
Lips

Apply lip liner to completely cover the lips
add color and your lipstick will stay on much longer. Make sure your lip liner doesn't show. Also
your lip color should match your skin tone; wear cool colors if you have cool coloring and warm colors if you have warm coloring. If you want to make your lips look smaller
keep your liner on the inside of your lips. However
if you decide to make your lips look larger
going outside the natural outline of you lips is a mistake. This can look quite messy and unnatural.

3
Appropriate makeup
Wear makeup that is appropriate for the occasion. If you are going to the beach you shouldn't wear the same or as much makeup as you would if you were going dancing. Also
when you are in daylight your makeup should be a lighter than when you are out for the evening.

4
Too little or no makeup

Some women don't wear makeup because they are not sure how to use it and are afraid of being overdone. If you are unsure
start will light colours in your shade. Start slowly and add one product at a time. Maybe start with foundation
add mascara
blush or lipstick. If you are not used to wearing makeup
using a lot a first may be a little too much for you
so start slowly. The bottom line is a little is better than none. If you are still unsure seek professional advice.

5
Overall look

When your makeup is completed it should look natural. That means avoiding colours that clash. If you have dark skin and hair you will look better in darker shades; light colours will make you look washed out. If your hair and skin tone are light
light colours will look better on you. Dark makeup will make you look older and harsh. If you have oily skin
first use oil control moisturizer and foundation. Then be sure to wear loose powder
keeping pressed powder with you for touch ups.

6
Hair color

Your hair color should also be in harmony with your skin. If you have dark hair and you want to add color
keep it close to the same shade. If you have light hair
use light colors. As you age your skin will lighten
so should your hair color. One last thing about hair color - if you do color you hair be sure you keep it up
don't let your roots show.

7
One last thing

Keep makeup looking fresh all day by doing regular touch ups. Don't let your makeup fade or crease. Smile!!!

7 Beauty Tips for Looking Younger

Ever since Eve took that first bite of the apple
the human race has been obessed with beauty.

The truth is we begin the aging process just as soon as we pop out of the womb. Every day of our lives our bodies slough off and regenerate new cells. The speed at which that process takes place when we are children is vastly different as we get older.

Every day you are bombarded daily with commercial messages and beauty tips that attempt to lure you into believing that the most recent miracle drug is just what you need to fight off the ravages of Mother Nature.

We are living longer as a whole. Singularly
that can be a curse or a blessing
depending on your perspective.
The best route to natural beauty and healthy skin is to take care of what you have. Sounds simple
doesn’t it? The truth is that your skin takes a beating from the environment every single day. Here are some of our favorite beauty tips for keeping your skin fresh and healthy:

1: Stay hydrated and do it with plenty of water! That does not mean soda
caffeine or any other type of liquid
even if it is low cal. Soda (even diet soda) has a high concentration of sodium. Sodium retains fluids. You need fluid that will hydrate and flush your body free of toxins. Make sure you are drinking at least 8 glasses a day!

2: Protect your skin from harmful ultra violet (UV) rays. We all love the sun. We love being in it and we love having a beautiful tan. The truth is you can poison yourself with too much sunshine. UV rays cause skin cancer and if that isn’t bad enough it causes your skin to age faster than it should
contributing to unsightly wrinkles. If you must play in the sun
make certain you are using an adequate sun screen. Don’t leave home without it!

3: Keep your skin clean. Use a soft warm cloth. Skin does not require scrubbing. You will do more harm than good if you do.

4: The best cure for wrinkles is to never have them in the first place! If you are like most of us
you didn’t listen to your Mom when she tried to tell you to stay in the shade
stand up straight and stop squinting!

5: Eat healthy. Knowing how and what to eat
can make a huge difference in how you feel. Improper eating habits can cause depression
weight gain
illness and an overall lethargy.

Weight gain causes your skin to stretch. As you get older
it loses it's elasticity and you're left with sagging skin.
The best solution to this is to maintain a proper weight.

A rule of thumb for eating habits are...don't eat more calories than you consume. Don't go one single day without doing something extra and physical for at least 30 minutes per day. This can be three ten minute walks. Or 30 minutes of vigorous aerobics
or 12 minutes of weight lifting and 18 minutes of walking.

6: Don't worry
be happy. A happy outlook appears to trigger the release of endorphins. Endorphins relax the cardiovascular system and cytokines which alert the immune system to pay attention in detecting abnormalities like cancer cells. Listen carefully to yourself. If you have put yourself down since childhood
over a lifetime
negative subliminal messages can take their toll by turning you into a pessimist. Spend one week writing down the phrases you use in your “self talk.” Chances are you will find that you repeat a dozen or so phrases over and over again that reinforce that negative image. If you know about them
you can change them. Outer beauty and inner joy go hand in hand.

Here are a few quick tips for increasing joy
hope and optimism that will work no matter what your age:

Make a list of at least 50 great things that happen to you every day.

Laugh a lot. You’ll heal your body and your mind.

Discover a new challenge each month.

Try meditating for just five minutes each day.

7: Sex After 50 – Ha! How many of you jumped ahead to this section?

The importance of physical intimacy actually depends on the couple. An alarming number of men used to give up on sex after 60 and many women used to feel that their sex life ended with menopause. Thankfully
that is no longer the case.

Sex at middle age can actually become better and more satisfying than ever before. Maturity gives a couple more experience in lovemaking. The children are usually grown and left home. The pressures of building a career and day to day life are usually less stressful than in younger years.

Is beauty really skin deep?

The answer is yes and no. It’s a paradox
isn’t it? True beauty begins from the inside out. Don’t you wish there was some way to “wriggle your nose” and regain that soft skin you had as a child? Well
until someone comes up with the true “Fountain of Youth” we are stuck with what we have.

Just remember that getting older doesn't have to mean getting old.

6 Steps to Super Sleek Stylish Hair

Whether you want to look great for a party and have all afternoon to get ready
or just want to smarten up before a meeting
there are things to do to get your hair looking great and give your confidence a real boost.

Super Hair Tip Number 1:

Shampoo properly. By this
I mean that you should invest in a top quality salon shampoo that matches your hair type
if you have coloured hair
make sure that the formulation of your shampoo is suitable
likewise if your hair is thin
greasy
blonde
or brunette
talk to your stylist
and get them to advise you on what they think is best. Too many people simply pick something off the supermarket shelf and home for the best
when what they really need is a shampoo that suits them.

Super Hair Tip Number 2:

Condition deeply. Hair conditioners have a formulation that will add body and shine to your hair. You know how uncomfortable and scratchy clothes are if you don’t use a fabric conditioner
well hair is the same. Also
a good conditioner will help to keep your hair static free
which will reduce frizziness even more. Massage the conditioner from root to tip and leave it to work its magic and make your hair look really healthy and shiny before rinsing it thoroughly.

Super Hair Tip Number 3:

Dry your hair well. Modern hair dryers will not harm your hair as much as they used to
but if you are going to use a blow dryer to get your hair dry quickly
make sure you keep it moving over your hair and dry it evenly to avoid overheating. If you have the time
use the dryer on a cool setting to avoid damage.

Super Hair Tip Number 4:

Use a good Serum. There are a huge variety of great products around that are designed to smooth your hair. Most salons will be able to point you in the direction of a serum such as Frizz-ease that will help to keep your hair looking great. Generally hair serums work in three ways
by relaxing the hair
smoothing it
and reducing the potential for it to attract the static electricity that will cause it to frizz up.

Super Hair Tip Number 5:

Use good quality hair straighteners. Most people find that the cheaper hair straighteners do not do a very good job. You might find that they do not get hot enough to iron out the kinks properly on a single pass
and are not slippery enough to allow your hair to pass through smoothly. Opt for ceramic or glass heating plates
and make sure that there is an adjustable temperature. GHD straighteners are the one of the most popular brands around and ae commonly used in salons all around the world. Their plates get hot fast
and are extra smooth to make styling your hair easy
all of which makes them a real favourite in salons around the world. Ceramic plates will help discharge the static electricity from your hair too
and leave it looking straight for longer.

Super Hair Tip Number 6:

Eat well. Your hair is nourished by what you eat and drink
and will never look good if you don’t eat a balanced diet with lots of vitamins and minerals. Hair is mostly made of protein
so make sure your diet includes plenty. Drink water too
as this will flush impurities out of your body and keep you healthy.

6 Common Cosmetic Dental Procedures Explained

Thursday, 13 August 2009

Cosmetic dentistry helps many people get a confident smile
and also corrects many dental anomalies. Six of the most common cosmetic dental procedures are:

1. Dental bonding: This is carried out to fill gaps in the teeth and cover stains and chips. The process involves the application of a composite resin material to the tooth. The material
which is available in several shades
is sculpted to cover the desired area. It is then dried using a high-intensity light or a chemical. The process does not cause any discomfort to the patient except when a minor tooth roughening is done. Dental bonding does not require more than one visit to the dentist and is relatively inexpensive as compared to other dental restoration techniques.

2. Tooth contouring and reshaping: This quick
inexpensive
and non-invasive procedure is used to fix dental issues such as overlaps
shallow pits and grooves in the enamel
worn edges
and chipped teeth. The dentist uses a polishing instrument for the removal of a tiny amount of enamel and the tooth is reformed. The enamel removal procedure is carried out only after dentists confirm through x-rays that the teeth requiring reshaping are strong enough to withstand some enamel loss. The process is completed with the smoothing and polishing of the edges of the newly contoured tooth. The process usually requires a follow-up visit after the first visit.

3. Mouth guards and night guards: These are plastic appliances that offer protection to the mouth during sports and also while sleeping. Mouth guards disperse shock caused by violent contact and thus protect the head and neck. They are prepared using a cast of the teeth. The mouth guards can be stock
mouth-formed
or custom-made. Night guards prevent bruxing between teeth during sleep. They are ideal for people with worn teeth
those who suffer aches in the jaws
and people with teeth that are sensitive to cold.

4. Halitosis or bad breath: The breakdown of food particles by the bacteria present under plaque
in the crevices on the tongue
and between teeth leads to the generation of volatile sulfur compounds (VSC) that cause bad breath. Periodontal disease is also a cause of halitosis. Dentists determine the amount of VSC being generated by using a halimeter. Treatment usually involves following a prescribed oral hygiene routine that may include the use of irrigators
artificial saliva
tongue scrapers
etc.

5. Tooth whitening: This treatment is useful for removing stains that appear due to the consumption to tea
coffee
cigarettes
and wine. Whitening is carried out using bleaching gel
which is usually hydrogen or carbamide peroxide. The gel breaks down releasing oxygen molecules that penetrate the enamel and dentin and disintegrate the stains. The time required for results to appear depends upon the source of the stain and varies from a few hours to a few weeks.

6. Crowns and bridges: Teeth that need repair after an accident or excessive decay can be treated by using a crown
which is an artificial replacement for the upper portion of the tooth. A bridge involves placing an alternate tooth that is held in place using two crowns that are bonded on adjacent teeth.

5 Tips To Improved Skin Care

Your skin is the first thing that people notice about you and that is why a proper skin care regimen is so important. There are many products that claim to help improve skin tone and promote a flawless complexion
but the truth is that there is no such thing as instant results. An effective skin care regimen is one that is done consistently over a time before results will begin to develop.

Skin Care Tip 1:
Always use some type of exfoliation product
which will help to remove old skin cells and other debris and particles from your skin. This will expose the healthy cells and rid your body from the old ones.

Skin Care Tip 2:
If possible
avoid constant sun exposure and tanning beds. In addition to being dangerous where health is concerned
these may also lead to early signs of aging. Everyone loves a suntan
but there is no reason to sacrifice your skin or your health in order to achieve it. Therefore
many individuals opt for a self-tanning lotion instead. Back in the day
these products had a tendency to turn the skin orange
but that is no longer the case. Improvements have helped to give self-tanning products a more natural
streak-free look. Before applying the lotion to your entire body
apply it to a small test area just to make sure there is no irritation.

Skin Care Tip 3:
If your lips tend to become chapped in the winter months or wind burnt at other times
using lip balm or lipstick will help to protect the lips from nature’s worst.

Skin Care Tip 4:
Dry or cracked skin can be very unbearable. Not to mention the discomfort of tight red skin
it can be downright embarrassing. A container of Pacquin Plus hand & body cream will eliminate soreness
redness and help to add moisture back to dry skin.

Skin Care Tip 5:
Do not use products that irritate your skin in any way
including soaps that have harsh ingredients. If possible
use a moisturizing soap or that which is designed for sensitive skin.
In addition to these tips
skin care products are available as commercial or prescription based treatments. A dermatologist is often consulted for matters relating to acne or other skin disorders
especially if they are severe. Many skin care enthusiasts also believe in using plenty of moisturizing body lotion in order to replenish the skin’s natural moisture
which is often stripped in today’s harsh environment.

5 Tips to Finally Get Rid of Cellulite

Wednesday, 12 August 2009

Copyright 2006 Lynn VanDyke

Doesn’t it seem as though summer is coming a bit quicker this year? Each day brings us one step closer to busting out the bathing suits and baring our bodies. This is the time of year when many people
women in particular
start scrutinizing their body closer than ever. My inbox is proof of this. I have decided to write an article about the number one question of last week- how to banish cellulite.

I was a bit surprised at the many misconceptions surrounding cellulite. A lot of women asked if such-and-such cream would work
if they should stop eating cottage cheese or if surgery was their only option.

What exactly is cellulite and what is the best way to get rid of it?

Cellulite is nothing more than additional fat cells stored in your body. We all have connective tissue that separates fat cells into little compartments. Women have honey-combed shaped compartments and men have a crisscross pattern. The honey-combed shape compartments are the reason some women have dimply thighs
or cottage cheese looking arms.

Getting rid of cellulite is simple
but not necessarily easy. The only way cellulite can be reduced is to reduce overall body fat. You cannot spot reduce or rub a cream on it. You cannot starve yourself either. The only way to rid yourself of cellulite is to follow these 5 highly effective
simple
and to-the-point tips.

1) Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each meal should be 2-3 hours apart. Each meal should contain one protein and one carb. The first meal should be eaten within an hour after waking.

2) Drink a cup of water at each meal.

3) Rest properly. This means taking at least 48 hours between strength training the same muscles
and it also means getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Lastly
it means taking 1-2 days off from exercising per week.

4) Cardio should be done at different intensity levels and different session lengths. Consider doing a low intensity/long session
a high intensity/short session and a few medium intensity/medium length sessions per week.

5) Strength train each muscle 1-3 times per week. You should lift a proper weight and perform the proper amount of sets/reps for your strength training method. If you need more guidance or exercise ideas you can head over http://www.strength-training-woman.com

All of the above things combined will result in cellulite reduction. There are no miracle creams or secrets. It’s all about good old fashioned working out. Having said that
workout smarter and not harder! Get on a great program that is tailored to your body and your goals. Everyone is different
but following these 5 tips practically guarantees your cellulite will vanish.

5 Steps To Perfect Hair

Your hair is your crowning glory. Look after it and it will shine for all the world to see. You don’t always need expensive treatments
or visits to a hair salon to manage your hair professionally. There’s so much you can do yourself.

1. For shiny
healthy hair think first of your body’s intake. Your hair is really just a reflection of what you are inside. A good balanced
nutritious and healthy diet will do more to make your hair shine than any shampoo or conditioner. And drink eight to ten glasses of water a day too; hair is 25% water
so don’t let yours go thirsty!

2. Dry your hair after washing in the ambient temperature of your room after using an absorbent towel to soak up the excess moisture
but don’t rub hard. If possible
don’t use blow-drying
flat irons
curling irons or hot rollers. Artificial heating will leave your hair brittle and damaged in time. Be natural whenever you can.

3. Prevent unnecessary hair damage by using the right kind of hairbrush. Only comb wet hair with a wide-tooth comb
combing from end to root
but avoiding touching the root. Detangling wet hair with a hard steel comb can create a lot of damage
so don’t!

4. Remove trichoptlosis
or split ends
like this: take small sections of your hair and carefully twist them in a gentle downward motion. The split ends will stick out. Using sharp scissors
carefully cut into the twisted section
but not right through
to remove the damaged cuticles and leave a natural layered look. Cut roughly the same amount from each twist to balance the effect.

5. Hair loss can be slowed
or even reversed by applying a few simple tips
though they probably won’t cure an underlying condition. Biotin can help to regenerate hair follicles: blend bananas with honey
yoghurt and low-fat milk
and drink it daily. Supplements such as Vitamin B6
zinc and saw palmetto will help too
but eliminating stress and getting plenty of sleep may work just as well.

We are all obsessed with our hair
whether we are 9 or 90
male or female. Look after yourself first and foremost and your hair will reflect that care and attention. The Biblical Samson’s strength lay in his fine flowing hair. Your hair reflects your strength too.

5 Reasons To Keep Your Beauty Salon Reservation

Tuesday, 11 August 2009

Life is hectic; it’s true. There are so many things that demand your time and attention. Between work
kids
family and household chores
there is precious little time left over for you. So
it is completely understandable why things like salon reservations get pushed to the end of your priority list. But is it at the end of the “to do” list where your next hair trim belongs?

The answer to that question is
of course
no. There are many reasons why you should keep your salon reservation. Aside from taking a little bit of time and relaxation for yourself
which I know is not going to motivate you since all of your energy goes toward enriching the lives of others and not your own
there are many practical reasons why you should not call and cancel your next reservation.

Here are 5 Reasons:

1. Keeping up with hair maintenance saves you time. You know how it is
your hair is doing just fine until that fateful morning on which you realize that your hair is way past due for a trim. It just won’t do anything. So
after hours of trying to coerce your hair into the style that it held beautifully just yesterday you resign yourself to the fact that nothing except a haircut will fix your bad hair day. But we all know that a spur-of-the-moment haircut is hard to come by. That means that you will spend the next week or so wasting time trying to style your overgrown locks while waiting for your reservation. Only if you would have kept your original reservation. You see
getting a regular trim
even if you think you can squeeze by another week or two
prevents this mess from happening in the first place. A cut that is the perfect length and shape will be a breeze to style in the mornings
and that will save you time.

2. Keeping your reservation saves you money. If your stylist has regular opportunities to keep your hair in tip top shape
he or she will have to do less in the long run to keep you looking beautiful. If you continually let your style grow out or let your color fade
your stylist will have to do more work to bring your wayward tresses back in line again. More work equals more time
and we all know that time equals money.

3. There is never a better time than today to get your hair done. Sure
we all think that we’ll have more time next week
that our work load will be less than it is today. But does that ever really happen? Let’s face it; next week will be just as busy as this week. And when you’re busy
a little bit of R & R will give you the energy that you need to keep going.

4. Another reservation is weeks away. Why do you go to your stylist? It’s because he or she is a fantastic stylist and knows your hair inside and out. Well
if your stylist is this great with you
I’m sure there are other clients dying for your stylist’s services. If you miss this reservation
it could be weeks before you get another one.

5. Keep your reservation out of respect. When you make a reservation
your stylist carves out time from a hectic day to cater to you. If you don’t show or cancel at the last minute
your stylist will end up sitting around making no money when he or she could have filled that time slot with another guest. Canceling reservations repeatedly may cause you to be placed on a pay in advance or last minute reservation list. Or even in some cases you can get fired for missing too many reservations.

Granted
sometimes things happen that make canceling an appointment a necessity. When this is the case
be sure to give a minimum 24 business hours and reschedule as soon as you can. Not only will your stylist thank you
but your hair will as well.

5 Hot Hair Style Trends For 2006

If 2005 was a time for trendy locks
then 2006 promises to be even trendier. 2005 was the age of the great re-invention
when old styles were rehashed with greater imagination. The basic styles were evidently from the late 60s and the 70s. All could see that the inspiration behind the styles lay firmly at the doors of the good ol' days. But
each new style had that little something- a sizzling zing that gave the old style a completely fresh and stunning look.

Trends in the fashion industry seem to be taking some time in making a global sweep. From the time of its inception
a particular style takes a few years to gain acceptance and a few years still to frizzle out. Accessories are a MUST this year. 'ACCESSORISING RIGHT ' is what 2006 is all about! The 5 hot hairstyles trends that are set to sweep you off your feet in 2006 are as below:

The Hollywood makeover: Classic vintage Hollywood - that's what smooth waves of lush hair with deep side partings remind you of. There are some easy ways to get this look. After a shower
pat dry your hair. Toweling will spoil the effect. Follow this with some finger waving. Pin curling will also achieve this effect. Classic vintage accessories like rhinestones and feathers will complete the look. Ostrich feathers are going to be a rage in the coming year.

The trendy 80s: The 70's have worn themselves off with the whole "Hippie/disco" look finally petering out. Now
it is time to rock with the decade of decadence
as the 80s are often called. Straight is out and crimps are in. More movement
short layering styles and tousled
wind-blown look. Pig-tails are a definite "no-no". Keep a sharp eye for brightly colored sweatshirts
tapering blue jeans and spiky stilettos. Junky jewelry is another 80s passion.

The Beatles reborn: The mod hairstyle of the 50s and 60s has come back in a big way. This new version is shorter
with more texture in the crown
and blunt bangs that almost touch the eyelashes. An ultrashort hairdo and angular cuts will be a rage in 2006. Colors and highlights give extra depth to the hair
and reflect the more playful and experimental attitude of the times.

Asymmetric cuts: Extreme angles and blunt edges give this hairdo a sculptural look. The unexpected blunt edges make this a rather extreme and edgy trend. There is no blending and smooth transition here. An asymmetric cut where one side is longer than the other makes 2006 an exciting time for youngsters who do not mind experimenting. The angle at which the hair is cut can be a gentle slope or even a drastic plummet. People who have very short hair can turn this style to their advantage. Fun patterns carved into the side of the head makes this style a real showstopper.

The Mohawk style: Another versatile style that people with short hair can wear beautifully. This style is well suited for both guys and girls
long-haired and short-haired. The classic Mohawk style has a narrow strip of hair down the middle of the scalp. This was also known as the "scalp lock". If the hair is short
use a gel or wax to simply push your hair up in the center of the head. A temporary Mohawk is easily achieved. Just plaster the hair to the sides and push the hair at the center to the top. An authentic Mohawk look will need you to trim the sides and the back of your hair and create an elevated "peak" at the center. This style is a little difficult to achieve and maintain.

3 Ways to Increase HGH Human Growth Hormone Amounts in Your Body

HGH has been touted lately for it’s anti-aging possibilities. The amount of HGH in our body peaks in our early 20’s and goes down drastically from that point. Many people are rejuvenating themselves
and swearing by the results
by increasing HGH into their system

There are three delivery systems that add HGH into the system: homeopathic sublingual sprays
pharmaceutical injections
or pills that stimulate the release of HGH from the pituitary gland. With all three choices the goal is the same: to raise the measurable IGF-1 levels in the body in order to gain the youthful benefits. The short discussion below on all three therapies will help you discover which protocol is right for you.

Human Growth Hormone Pills:

When you buy a pill form of HGH you should know right up front that there is no HGH in the product. Read the ingredients. There are only stacked amino acids and other assorted stimulants. Even though the product name might be “HGH Releasor
” or “HGH Precursor
” there is no HGH in the product. It works by stimulating your Pituitary Gland into producing more HGH.

There’s good news and bad news. The good news is that it actually works. The bad news is that it only works for 4-8 weeks. Then your over-stimulated Pituitary Gland says
“no mas
” and stops being stimulated. It’s really a terrible tease because just when you start saying to yourself
“hey this is great
” everything shuts down. Just when you realize what you’ve been missing
you lose it again.

Additionally
I was scared away from this therapy by reports that taking stacked amino “growth hormone pills” can raise cortisol levels in your body
which is extremely unhealthy. So the choice then came down to putting the actual hormone into my body by way of shots or via oral sprays.

Human Growth Hormone Shots:

Almost all the HGH sites will tell you that the cost for shots ranges between $10
0
and $20
0
per year. It doesn’t. You can easily find it available for around $3
0
per year and even lower if you go through Mexican pharmaceuticals. Needles today are very safe and generally painless.

But sticking myself twice a day
twenty days per month
didn’t seem like a routine a healthy person should be doing
no matter how quick and easy it is. Call me squeamish if you like
I don’t care. This might suit some people
and if it does
you can consider going for it. Not me.

Those taking HGH injections should be aware that a few problems have been reported with “high” or “over” dosages
so anyone using this protocol would be wise to be clinically monitored on a regular basis by a physician.

HGH Oral Spray:

So the HGH spray option was the one I chose
especially considering the fact that I didn’t know if the product would deliver what retailers were claiming. It seemed to be the most benign
risk free
gentle
therapy that produced excellent results
and was reasonably priced between $500 and $1250 per year.

The amounts of herbal and nutritional contents listed on a product label can be most misleading. What’s important is not the nutritional content listed on the label
but rather how much of that nutrient is actually absorbed into the cells of the body. Sprays provide excellent absorption when micro-sized beads or droplets of a nutrient are taken into the body through the tissue lining of the mouth or nose. Blood capillaries are extremely close to the surface in these areas and readily absorb HGH into the bloodstream. The flow of absorbed nutrients from this area of the mouth is to the Carotid Artery
then to the brain
and then on to the heart within 22 to 30 seconds. Within minutes
it is totally dispersed throughout the body.

As far as which spray is the best
it’s my belief that if and when independent clinical trials are made of all the spray products they will all basically be close in effectiveness. They all contain the same amounts of Somatrophin (Human Growth Hormone). Some add a little bit of female this
some add a little bit of male that. I chose the one I thought was most homeopathically prepared because I knew more care would have been taken in its manufacturing and it would probably be more gentle on my system.

Learn as much as you can about Human Growth Hormone and make your own decision about which way you want to go. No matter what age you begin taking HGH you will enjoy the results.
